Competition for Sulcis

The desire to foster growth and development in the Sulcis area, thereby offering the region new socio-economic prospects, has resulted in the creation of the international ideas competition An Idea for Sustainable Development of Sulcis.

The competition is envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 13 November 2012  by the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Province of Carbonia-Iglesias and the municipalities of Sulcis Iglesiente.

The implementation is under the responsibility of Invitalia, The National Agency for Inward Investment Promotion and Enterprise Development SpA.
The competition will pursue the goal of stimulating the local, national and international "market" for ideas for valuing the Sulcis Iglesiente area and gathering development ideas that may be helpful in formulating the Sulcis Strategic Project.

On the basis of a shared “strategic vision” of the area, the Sulcis Strategic Plan will indicate the measures to be taken, priority actions, parties involved, their roles, implementation conditions, financial resources and the schedule for carrying out the initiatives.

Ideas are to be in keeping with local planning and will be required to be aimed at recouping, exploiting and expanding upon the area's potential, skills and traditions, within a strategic vision of sustainable development.

A process has been launched that envisaged the publication of a preliminary call, on 28 January 2013, with the aim of giving an early announcement of the call and to creating interest and arouse the creativity of the local, national and international communities.
The call published on 20th February 2013 identifies the themes, methods of participation, requirements for participants and proposals, criteria for assessing proposals and establishing rankings and intellectual property arrangements.

The Competition closed on April 22nd , 2013. It has been possible to vote online for favourites ideas from April 23rd till September 18th. The Evaluation Committee has selected the 6 best ideas among the submitted ones and mentioned 10 valuable ideas. Read winning ideas.
